Hearst Fujingaho Co., Ltd. announced that Tomoyuki Kondo has been appointed as the new Editor-in-Chief of Esquire Japan, effective July 18, 2025. In his new role, he will oversee the editorial direction of both the print magazine and the digital platform, Esquire Digital. Taking over from former Editor-in-Chief Toshinori Sato, Kondo brings extensive editorial experience, with a strong background in fashion, and cultural storytelling across both print and digital formats.

Over the past three years, Tomoyuki Kondo has contributed as an editor of the global Uniqlo magazine and as a creative director for seasonal catalogues. With insights gained from both the media and corporate sectors, along with a robust international network, Kondo is well-positioned to lead the next phase of Esquire Japan’s evolution.

Esquire Japan has established itself as a global media brand delivering high-quality content that seamlessly merges fashion, lifestyle, art, design, and journalism. In February 2025, the magazine underwent a significant relaunch with a fresh look and vision. Esquire Digital continues to expand its content offerings across a broad array of genres, including technology and fitness. This year, its digital business has experienced rapid growth, with revenues more than doubling year-over-year. Video content, particularly in the fashion, automotive, and watch segments, has been especially well-received.

Tomoyuki Kondo said: “The new Esquire Japan will take root in Tokyo and explore urban lifestyles from a global perspective. We intend to deliver thoughtful insights into a wide range of topics – spanning fashion, art, food, travel, watches, and automobiles – while embracing contemporary sensibilities grounded in timeless values. Guided by the concept of ‘harmony between beauty and utility’, we will delve into Japan’s unique aesthetic and functional traditions, and communicate their value powerfully to both domestic and international audiences. I look forward to ushering in a new era for Esquire.”
