Esquire, a Hearst Magazines brand, has launched For What It’s Worth, a new editorial column that breaks down today’s biggest financial stories through the lens of culture, business, sports, technology, luxury, and everyday life.

Over six installments, For What It’s Worth will explore the economic forces shaping the world around us—from stadium financing and luxury goods to green energy and other emerging sectors—in an engaging, digestible format. Written by journalist John Ortved, the series pairs Esquire’s signature wit and curiosity with insights from experts across Hearst-owned Fitch Ratings, one of the world’s largest credit rating agencies, giving readers the context behind complex financial topics—and the confidence to talk about them.

The series will be syndicated across Esquire’s global network of editions, including the U.S., U.K., Italy, and additional markets, reaching a combined digital audience of more than 13 million readers.

“One of the strengths of Esquire’s global network is the brand’s ability to develop storytelling that resonates across markets,” said Chloe O’Brien, Global Editorial & Brand Director, Hearst Magazines International.

“Tapping into the expertise of Fitch Ratings’ analysts, For What It’s Worth is designed to help readers better understand the world around them while giving our international editions globally relevant stories they can share with local audiences.”

The first installment, published this week, examines the global stadium-building boom and asks the question: Are lavish new stadiums actually good for cities and fans? Featuring insights from Global Head of the Sports Sector at Fitch, Ben Munguia, the story explains the economics behind billion-dollar sports venues, premium hospitality, naming rights, taxpayer funding, and the growing role of stadiums as year-round entertainment destinations.

New installments of For What It’s Worth will roll out throughout the year, covering the industries, innovations, and economic trends influencing how people live, work, and spend.
